Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence ("AI", also commonly referred to as machine intelligence or machine learning) is a hybrid branch of mathematics and computer science that enables digital devices to mimic the intelligence and/or behavior of humans.
AI is not a new technology, with both of its two main branches having been developed in the 1950's (neural networks) and 1960's (genetic algorithms or evolutionary computing). Ron's experience with AI goes back to the 1980's when he met John Holland (the inventor of genetic algorithms) when Ron was a graduate student at the University of Michigan. The meeting had quite a bit of serendipity. Ron was prompted to meet Prof. Holland by Ron's stepfather, who was then a professor of genetics at Albion College. Ron was able to apply genetic algorithms to aircraft design and (later) to legal applications. When he was in law school, Ron wrote a paper on the ownership and liability for artificial agents. After that, Ron stayed in the field by writing patent applications involving artificial intelligence (mainly about artificial agents) and writing his own AI for legal workflow automation.
Here are a sample of Ron's presentations concerning artificial intelligence:
