Cybersecurity / Privacy

Cybersecurity and Privacy are two separate but overlapping topics.

Cybersecurity encompasses the security and integrity of data (and traffic) on a digital information system, such as a network and connected devices.  In Ron's practice, his cybersecurity-related cases have included:

  • Data breach/notifications (including filings with state and local authorities)
  • Incidence response
  • Analyzing networks and devices (forensically) to determine if security had been breached
  • Generation of data-retention policies
  • Counseling clients on secure practices

Privacy concerns data pertaining to an individual that is considered sensitive under certain statutes or customs.  Often, the sensitive private information is stored on an digital information system, hence the overlap.  Ron's practice has included several different types of privacy-related issues, including:

  • Generation of privacy policies
  • Counseling clients on the costs associated with retaining personally sensitive information, and the potential risks associated with data breaches
  • Generation of website terms of use policies that include provisions for retaining and transferring information pertaining to individuals
  • Reviewing cybersecurity measures regarding the protection of personally sensitive information
  • Implementing encryption applications for clients and other law firms

Ron has made many presentations on both topics.  He has also handled quite a number of cybersecurity and privacy cases.  Below are a list of representative samples of his work in this area.
